Biography

Dr. Jean-Charles Doucet, DMD, MD, MSc, FRCD(C) is an Assistant Professor of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Science at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada. Originally from Montreal, he is fluent in French and English. He completed his dentistry degree (DMD) at the University of Montreal in 2004, followed by a general practice residency at the Notre-Dame Hospital and University of Montreal in 2005. He then obtained both his medical degree and masters of Science, and completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Dalhousie University in 2011. He then concluded his subspecialty training with a Cleft and Craniofacial Fellowship at the University of Montpellier-1, France in 2012.

Dr. Doucet joined the QE II Health Sciences Centre and IWK Health Centre, Halifax, Canada in July 2012 as an attending oral and maxillofacial surgeon. His principal clinical interests include the primary and secondary repair of cleft lip and palate, the surgical management of cleft related speech problems, and the correction of other craniofacial deformities. Dr. Doucet has numerous peer-reviewed publications and research grants and is a member of numerous associations including the Canadian and American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Association Francophone des Fentes Faciales, American Cleft Palate – Craniofacial Association and International Cleft lip and Palate Foundation.

Interests outside of OMF

Dr. Doucet’s main interest outside Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is to be a loving father for his 2 children. He also enjoys being active, with his favourite sports being alpine skiing, ice hockey and fishing.

Why you do what you do

Dr. Doucet practices oral and maxillofacial surgery and craniofacial surgery because he enjoys helping patients and loves working with his hands. This is especially true when treating patients with facial differences. He feels fortunate to be able to care for this special group of patients and their families. Seeing their smiles is what he finds the most rewarding!

RESEARCH INTERESTS:

Dr. Doucet has numerous peer-reviewed publications and his research interests focus on the primary repair of the cleft lip nasal deformity, early alveolar bone grafting, and cleft distraction osteogenesis.
